This post is my entry into the ProBlogger.net group writing project. Its the eleventh hour before the deadline so I appologize for the crap writing. The theme is “How To” and I hope to teach you how to back up your DVDs so you’ll stop bugging me to do it.
Things you’ll need:
DVD Shrink 3.2
DVD burner
DVD burning software such as Nero Burning ROM

1) Insert the DVD that you want to copy into your DVD drive and open up DVD Shrink 3.2

2) Click the Open Disc button
3) DVD Shrink will analyze your DVD and this process will take about 2 minutes depending on the speed of your drive

4) After analyzing your DVD you will see a window that will list the contents of your DVD.
5) If the DVD is larger than the standard 4.7 DVD+R disc you will see that the automatic compression settings will automatically format the video to fit on a standard 4.7GB disc. If you want a higher quality of video it is import to uncheck any content that you do not need. For example, extra language tracks or bonus content.

6) when you are ready to backup your disc, click the Backup button
7) All the defaults should be ok as long as your file is being written to a hard disk drive that has enough free space to hold a 4.7 GB image file.
8) If you want slightly higher quality video, click the Quality Setting tab and check the box that performs a deep analysis

9) DVD Shrink will then encode the disk and write the .iso file to your hard drive. My 16x DVD drive completes this task in about a half hour.

10) Once the file is written you have successfully made a backup copy of your DVD. You can now choose to burn this image to a burnable DVD disc

11) Open Nero Burning ROM and exit out of the wizard.
12) Ensure that your DVD burner is selected and then choose the menu option Recorder -> Burn Image.

13) With a blank DVD disc in your drive accept the defalts an you should have a copy of your DVD within a half hour depending on how quickly your DVD writer can burn images.
